One Size Does't Fit All

Game made in Unity for HTC Vive based in TV shows like “Wipeout” and “Hole in the wall”

Inspired by local multiplayer games like Mario Party I wanted to create a fun game to be able to play with your friends without having to spend money in a 2nd (or more) HTC Vive. This game is also based in TV shows, so everyone can feel like being a participant in a nation-wide broadcast.

Difficulties / Learned lessons

  • It uses the HTC Vive play area to scale accordingly, but that generates extra complexity trying to keep the general experience accordingly.
  • Start using ScriptableObjects instead of full MonoBehaviours.
  • Bake your lights at the end and have all your entities enabled.
  • Progressive light bakes faster than Enlighten.
  • It’s better to use an Event Manager than relying just on huge methods.
  • Review the assets store, specially for prototyping.
  • Inverse Kinematics (IK) is your friend if you want to use virtual avatars.

Due to being a future game I want to publish the source code it’s not available to download, but you can download the release version here

Next steps

  1. Change to ScriptableObjects intead of MonoBehaviour parameters.
  2. Include a multiplayer version.
  3. Fix errors with TextMeshPro and CurvedUI.
  4. Use voice commands instead of UI.
